USSC 1005 IMPROVED SURGICAL STAPLER APPARATUS Abstract of the Disclosure An improved anvil for crimping or clinching generally U-shaped surgical staples in a surgical stapler includes a main channel transverse to the bases of the staples, the bottom surface of the main channel being the staple crimping or clinching surface and having a plurality of closely spaced grooves or secondary channels trans- verse to the longitudinal axis of the main channel for allowing staples to be crimped or clinched at substan- tially any location along the length of the main channel.
