ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a subscription television system, a video signal of specific program is scrambled only in a video portion of the video signal in accordance with predetermined scrambling mode and a key signal which is used for unscrambling the scrambled video signal is generated in response to the scrambling mode. In accordance with this invention, the key signal is transmitted after termination of transmission of the specific program.
