ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for adjusting the feed support of a rock drilling unit to a chosen distance from a rock into which holes are to be drilled. In one embodiment the drill bit encounters the rock face and a signal is given to a control unit which determines by virtue of the relative positioning of the drilling unit and the feed support what additional movement is required for the feed support, and then executes such movement. The location of the feed support with respect to the rock face may employ other known distance measuring devices mounted on the feed support or an end position feeler for the drill mounted for instance on the rear end of the feed support.
