62046-181 ABSTRACT This invention relates to a method and to means for determining the internal mechanical stress which is developed within an elongated article which passes from a ship via a wheel into the sea, and for determining the angle relation to vertical at which the article enters the sea. This is obtained by measuring two components of the resulting force acting on the wheel and from these measured components the values of stress and inclination angle are found. Other means such as acceleration compensating equipment, echosounder adapted equipment, paid-out length meter, and the like may be incorporated in the system. Movable mechanical arms are avoided and compensation of different error sources easily may be undertaken.
