ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A known polarized electromagnetic relay (PE relay) has an I-shaped iron core with an energizing coil disposed with its ends between opposed end pieces of a yoke. A movable block with permanent magnet structures at each end is provided with magnetic plates of the magnet structures between the core and the end pieces of the yoke. Energizing the coil moves the block sideways to actuate contact members, the current direction determining the direction of movement of the block. This known structure must be made precisely to ensure stable switching operation between its contact members and to avoid vibration. Smooth switching is difficult to obtain and the structure tends to be fairly large. The PE relay of the present invention avoids these problems by mounting the movable block and the magnetic structures supported thereby for pivoting movement which actuates the switching contacts. The movable block can also tilt slightly to ensure good contact of the magnetic plates with yoke end pieces.
