ABSTRACT A computer-controlled switching apparatus for controlling power switching elements, wherein a microprocessor is connected by way of analog-digital converter means to at least one sensor for detecting the current consumption of the apparatus to be monitored, for example a motor or the like, and sequentially calculates characteristic data from the detected values, in accordance with various models, and compares said detected values to preselectible limit values, wherein the microprocessor includes a coding means which outputs the calculated values, with an address coding, by way of a transmission path, to a display means having a decoder.
