ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel cable manhole or box culvert is provided herein. The cable manhole or box culvert includes a base including a stepped inset portion including a peripheral ledge and an inwardly-offset peripheral wall. The top includes a peripheral inner wall facing, and adapted to mate with, the stepped inset portion of the base. The cable manhole also includes a "nailable" insert formed within the inwardly-offset peripheral wall of the base. A resilient gasket is adhesively secured to the inwardly-offset peripheral wall of the base, and also is physically secured to the "nailable" insert. The exposed projecting face of the resilient gasket is urged into sealing engagement with the facing peripheral inner wall of the top, when the top and the base are assembled.
