ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for manufacturing a composite fiber reinforced thermosetting resin automotive spring having a constant width and variable thickness. The process com- prises: forming a constant width and thickness structure of fiber reinforcement and thermosetting resin, said fiber reinforcement being continuous fibers that extend from one end to the other of the spring. The structure is then positioned in a mould and compressed to extrude the inner portion thereof out the side of the structure at both end portions forming outwardly projecting wings having a keystone cross-section, while maintaining in the mould a sufficiently thick layer of fibers on the outer surfaces of the structure in an aligned position substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spring. The outwardly projecting wings of the spring are then trimmed to obtain a constant width.
