ABSTRACT In the spiral winding of tape, especially metal tapes, into tubes with essentially rectangular cross-sectional pro- files, the continually advancing tape is bent off following a predeterminable feed length by one interior angle of the cross- sectional profile diagonally to the direction of feed. The tape is guided centripetally during each bending sequence along a conducting surface, convexly curved and situated in the edge region of the tube undergoing formation. The inlet side of the conducting surface is located in the feed level, whereby upon reaching the outlet side of the conducting surface the centri- petal guiding of the tape is suspended once more for the forma- tion of the subsequent level tape segment.
