A new and improved polymerization inhibitor composition, its method of manufacture, and its use in stabilizing acrylic acid. The pre-ogygen-activation of N-nitrosophenylhydroxylamine in combination with hydroquinone monomethyl ether leads to a synergistic performance of these components in the vapor and/or liquid phase, particularly during distillation.
