A drill bit for use in drilling into earth formations. The drill bit has a body with a particular arrangement of cutters on a bottom end face thereof and at its opposite end it is detachably connectable in a conventional manner to a drill stem. The bit includes an internal fluid flow passage for supplying fluid to the cutters during drilling and a plurality of channels on the outer surface for return of the drilling fluid and cutting debris. The outer channels are spaced apart from one another circumferentially around the bit. The cutters are located on spaced apart formations projecting from the bottom end face of the bit and they have variously shaped outer cutting edges dependent upon their position and inclination relative to the axis of rotation of the bit. The channels in the outer surface are inclined slightly relative to the longitudinal axis of the bit, i.e. its axis of rotation and at least one of such channels may include, at its end remote from the bottom face of the bit, a cutting edge to facilitate removal of the bit through a bore hole.
