A B S T R A C T A METHOD FOR LITHOLOGY DETECTION A method for detecting changes in the lithology of formations surrounding a borehole by monitoring the automatic gain control (AGC) level of a borehole televiewer (BHTV). The AGC level is monitored and a signal whose amplitude is representative of the AGC level is transmitted to the surface. At the surface the BHTV signal is restored to its original level and displayed or the AGC signal level pulse can be monitored and displayed directly.
