ABSTRACT PREPARATION OF OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION CATALYST COMPONENT A solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium and halogen, for use in the polymerization of alpha olefins and having improved activity and morphological properties is disclosed. In particular, the solid catalyst component is prepared by reacting a carbonized or carbonated magnesium alkoxide or aryloxide with a halide of tetravalent titanium, a halohydrocarbon and an electron donor.
