ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Sorbinil of formula (I) is obtained by cyclization of S-6-fluoro-4-ureidochromane-4-carboxylic acid, which is in turn obtained by resolution of racemic 6-fluoro-4-ureido-chroman-4- carboxylic acid of formula (III) via diastereomeric salts with either D-(+)-1-phenethyl)amine or L-(-)-ephedrine, this novel process giving high yields of sorbinil using readily available, relatively inexpensive optically active amines.
