ABSTRACT ANDROSTENE-17-DITHIOKETALS Antiinflammatory activity is exhibited by steroids having the formula Image and the 1,2-dehydro, 6,7-dehydro and 15,16- dehydro derivatives thereof, wherein one of R1 and R2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, or -CH2X wherein X is alkylthio, alkoxy, aroyloxy, alkanoyloxy or alkoxycarbonyl, and the other is alklthioalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aroyloxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, carboxyalkyl or arylalkyl; R3 is hydrogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, oxo, methylene, alkylthio, arylthio, alkanoyl, alkanoyloxy, or halogen; R4 is carbonyl or .beta.-hydroxymethylene; R5 is hydrogen or halogen; and R6 is hydrogen, methyl, hydroxy, alkanoyl or halogen.
