"PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION MALFUNCTION CONTROL" ABSTRACT To prevent plant shut-down in pressure swing adsorption systems, malfunctioning absorbers are blocked off while the plant operates at reduced capacity. For controlling the system, physical variables are selected for the adsorbers, the pipelines and/or the valves of the pressure swing adsorption installation and are continuously measured, and unacceptable deviations between actual and desired values of these variables are evaluated as an indication of a defect in the adsorption installation. To prevent an adsorber from being prematurely blocked out of the system, at least two variables pertaining to a single adsorber must show unacceptable deviations, e.g., the pressure of the adsorber and the condition of the valve.
