ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a transfer apparatus for transferring easily bruised solids, the apparatus having two closed tanks each of which has a porous plate across its interior for dividing the tank into a liquid chamber and a solids chamber. Each tank has a discharge opening in the bottom of the solids chamber for discharging solid and liquid therefrom. A discharge valve means is provided in the discharge opening means and may be opened when the tank is under pressure for discharging liquids and solids. Each tank also has a suction opening means for introducing solids and liquids into the solids chamber. A suction valve means is provided in each suction opening means and may be opened when the tank is under a vacuum for having liquids and solids introduced thereto. The apparatus is provided with a centrifugal liquid pump means and a change-over valve which may be changed to at least two positions and is connected between the respective tanks. The pump provides, when the change-over valve means is in one position, means for connecting the water chamber of one tank to the intake side of the pump means for reducing the pressure in the one tank thus causing solids and liquid to be sucked into the tank and connecting the discharge side of the pump to the other tank for supplying liquid to that tank thus causing solids and liquids to be discharged therefrom. The operation is reversed when the connection is made to the second position.
