MPC080586 Abstract The aminoglycoside and aminoglycotide N4-(2,3,5- tri-O-acetyl-.beta.-D-ribofuranosyl)pyrimido[4,5-d]- pyrimidine-4,8-diamine and N4-(5-O-phosphono-.beta.-D- ribofuranosyl)pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidine-4,8-diamine exhibit antiviral activity as well as cytotoxic activity against the L1210 and mammary 16/C tumor cell lines. An improved method for their production involves the production of a sylilated intermediate and reaction of the intermediate with tetra-O-acetyl-.beta.-D-ribofuran- ose in the presence of the specific catalyst trimethylsilyltrifluoromethanesulfonate.
