IN THE CANADIAN PATENT AND TRADE MARK OFFICE PATENT APPLICATION entitled : Apparatus for determining a paint formulation for bodywork repairs. in the name of : Michel DAVID ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A measuring head, equipped with means for lighting one part of a bodywork of which the color is to be reproduced and with a receiver for picking up the light reflected in each of a plurality of preset wavelengths in order to produce a signal representing the reflectance of the surface in each wavelength, is connected to a device provided with means for calculating, for each wavelength, the reflectance obtained by any combination of basic shades or bases among a predetermined set of bases, and means for comparing the measured reflectances with the calculated reflectances in order to find the suitable paint formulation by continual approach, using a starting formulation given by the particular combination of bases corresponding to the color reference of the bodywork to be repaired, until the difference between the reflectance calculated values and measured values reaches a minimum or becomes smaller than a preset threshold.
