K 9768 A B S T R A C T CONTACTING GAS AND LIQUID Apparatus for contacting gas and liquid comprising a vessel (1) having a gas inlet (2), a liquid inlet (4) and horizontal trays (9 and 10) arranged axially spaced apart in the vessel 1, wherein each horizontal tray (9 and 10) is provided with a plurality of contacting means (13, 14, 15 and 16) comprising an open-ended vertical tube (19), contacting material (22) and swirl imparting means (25) arranged therein and means (26 and 27) allowing liquid collected on a horizontal tray (9, 10) to pass into the vertical tube (19) below the contacting material (22) and from the upper end of the vertical tube to below the tray (9, 10).
