ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides N-chloro-carbonyl- amino carboxylic esters having the general formula Image (I) wherein X = -CH2- or -S-, R1 represents a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms, R2, R3 and R4, each independently represents hydrogen or a methyl radical, R5 represents hydrogen, an alkyl radical, which is either unsubstituted or substituted by substituents stable against phosgene, or all aromatic or heteroaromatic radical, which is either unsubstituted or substituted by substituents stable against phosgene, or R4 and R5 together represent an alkylene radical containing 4 to 5 carbon atoms and 1, m and n, independently of each other, each represents 0, 1 or 2 with the stipulation that the sum of 1, m and n is minimally 1 and maximally 3 and for the case that 1 = 2, R2 and R3 can only represent hydrogen which are useful for producing of active sub- stances of the hydantoin type or of the urea type, particularly for plant protective agents. They are produced by introducing the chloro carbonyl group with phosgene into the corresponding amino carboxylic ester.
