ABSTRACT Cyclic phosphine oxides of the formula: Image wherein P is phosphorus, O is oxygen, A is an alk- ylene chain of 3 to 12 carbon atoms, Z is a polar group and R represents the carbon atoms in a phos- phorus-containing ring formed by alkylating an eth- ylenically unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon with phos- phine. These oxides are useful as flame retardants for styrene modified polyphenylene ether resins.
