ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A resonant tag circuit for use in an electronic security system. The security system includes means for providing, in a controlled area, an electromagnetic field of a frequency which is swept within a predetermined range and means for detecting the presence of the reson- ant tag circuit having a resonant frequency within the range. The resonant tag circuit includes a planar sub- strate of dielectric material and a tuned circuit on the substrate in planar circuit configuration and resonant at the frequency. The tuned circuit has a pair of con- ductive areas in alignment on respective opposite sur- faces of the substrate to define a capacitor of the tuned circuit. A path is defined within the conductive areas, between the conductive areas and through the sub- strate at which an arc discharge will preferentially occur in response to an electromagnetic field at the frequency of sufficient energy, and operative to des- troy the resonant properties of the tuned circuit.
