ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Piston rings having a required variation in curvature around their circumference are produced from a thin steel strip by passing the strip around rollers. The position of at least one of the rollers can be varied by a digital control system to provide the required variation in curvature. The provision of such a system allows the ring profile to be readily changed and for high production rates to be achieved.
