ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE. A protector for a drill string comprises a sleeve with an internal reinforcement the sleeve being split at teeth and when located on a drill string pipe the free ends are held together by a pin passing through slots in the teeth. A V-shaped notch lies diametrically opposite to the teeth and this notch facilitates opening of the protector to enable easy mounting on a drill pipe.
