ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE 2-bromo-8-ergolinyl compounds of the formula Image wherein R8 is NH2, NH-CONEt2, CONH2, and Image Image wherein R1 = C1-4-alkyl and R2 = C1-4-alkyl and benzyl, R9 and R10 each mean hydrogen or, together, a bond, and the substituent R8 can be in the .alpha.- or .beta.-position, and their acid addition salts, can be prepared from corresponding 8-ergolinyl compounds and their acid addition salts by bromination with elemental bromine in the presence of hydrogen bromide in a halogenated hydrocarbon. The process provides a selective brominating method for 8-ergolinyl compounds providing almost quantitative yields and simplifying the processing of the bromination product from a technical viewpoint.
