Abstract of the Disclosure: Novel ether-aldols of the general formula (I) Image where R1 and R2 are each alkyl, can be prepared by re- acting a 2-alkylacrolein (H2O = CHR2-CHO), an alcohol (R1OH) and formaldehyde, preferably aqueous formaldehyde, in the presence of a tertiary amine. These ether-aldols are useful intermediates particularly in the production of ethermalonic acids, important as crop protection agents.
