TITLE A method and apparatus for cleaning gas-contaminated particulate material by multiple passes of the material through a vacuum chamber and between containers which are cycled or flip-flopped through an arc of 180°. ABSTRACT An apparatus and method are disclosed for cleaning gas-contaminated particulate material such as powder metal. The gas-contaminated particulate material is subjected to an electric field in the vacuum chamber to electrically charge the gaseous contaminants and cause separation of the gaseous contaminants from the powdered metal to facilitate the removal of the gaseous contaminants from the vacuum chamber. A support means supports containers for initially positioning the first container above the second container to allow the particulate material to flow from the first container through the vacuum chamber and into the second container and for thereafter rotating the vacuum chamber and the first and second containers while they are connected together to reposition the second container above the first container to allow the particulate material from the second container to return in the opposite direction back through the vacuum chamber to the first container. This flip-flop concept is the distinguishing feature of the subject invention.
