ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A piezoelectric resonator comprises a first resonating single mode thickness expansion vibration unit including a first substrate comprised of a piezoelectric material and having two major surfaces, a first common electrode disposed on one major surface of the first substrate, and a first electrode disposed on the other major surface of the first substrate, the first electrode being at least partially opposed to the first common electrode through the first substrate. A second single mode thickness expansion vibration resonating unit includes a second substrate comprised of a piezoelectric material and having two major surfaces, a second common electrode disposed on one major surface of the second substrate, and a second electrode disposed on the other major surface of the second substrate, the second electrode being at least partially opposed to the second common electrode through the second substrate. The first and second resonating units are arrayed and fixed so that the first and second common electrodes are opposed to each other and the first and second common electrodes are electrically connected at at least one portion thereof so that a third electrode is formed, whereby the piezoelectric resonator resonates in a dual mode thickness expansion vibration.
