ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A granulated composition of self-extinguishing polycarbonate containing carboxylates of general formula (I) of metals of Group I A, I B, II A or II B of the Periodic Table of elements, or of ammonium: Image (I) where A1 and A2, may be for example a polycondensed benzene; B1 and B2, may be for example halogen atoms; m and n may vary from one to five; s1 and s2 may vary from zero to five; z1 and z2 may vary from zero to six; and i may be zero or one. When the carboxylic acid of general formula (I) is salified with a metal of Group I A, I B, II A or II B of the Periodic Table of elements, X is a di- or pluriradical e.g. -SO2-. When the carboxylic organic of general formula (I) is salified with an amino group, x is a di- or pluriradical e.g. >N-R-N<; where R is aliphatic. The composition may be used to confer flame resistance on a variety of objects.
