A method for providing dual-skinned membranes (88) useful as one-way or rectifying membranes which reduce back filtration of solute molecules in dialysis and which improve nutrient supply and product recovery in membrane bioreactors. The membranes are dual-skinned polymeric materials preferably in the form of hollow fibers. The membranes have skins (12, 14) of polymer on the opposite sides with differing permeability to solutes and sieving coefficient characteristics. The skin on each side has pores that are invisible at 10,000 times magnification. A microporous structure (16) between the skins contains pores capable of retaining solutes in a molecular weight range of about 5000 to 200,000 in an increased concentration between the interior (14) and the exterior (12) skins. Dialysis devices are formed by using bundles of the hollow fiber membranes as a dialysis member having rectifying properties. By repeatedly cycling solution back and forth across the membrane (88), the solute can be separated and concentrated on one side of the membrane (88).
Un procédé présenté par les membranes (88) à deux peaux s'avère utile pour les membranes anti-retour ou de rectification car il réduit la filtration en retour des molécules de soluté en dialyse et améliore l'apport en nutriment et la collecte des matières rejetées par les bioréacteurs à membranes. Les membranes sont des matériaux polymères à deux peaux se présentant de préférence sous forme de fibres creuses. Les peaux (12, 14) en polymère de chaque face des membranes sont caractérisées par une différence entre leurs coefficients respectifs de filtration et de perméabilité aux solutés. La peau de chaque face est munie de pores invisibles à un agrandissement de 10.000 fois. Une structure microporeuse (16) entre les peaux contient des pores pouvant retenir en concentration plus élevée, entre les peaux intérieure (14) et extérieure (12), des solutés dont le poids moléculaire se situe entre environ 5000 et 200.000. Les dispositifs à dialyse sont réalisés en faisceaux de membranes en fibres creuses servant d'éléments de dialyse dotés de propriétés de rectification. En répétant les cycles de passage de la solution dans l'un et l'autre sens au travers de la membrane (88), il est possible de séparer et concentrer le soluté sur l'une des faces de la membrane (88).
