The proposed production of 1,6-hexane diol involves the following steps: a) epoxybutadiene is reacted in the presence of a metathesis catalyst, ethene being broken down to bisepoxihexatrienes of formulae (Ia) and (Ib); and b) these bisepoxihexatrienes are then hydrated with hydrogen to form 1,6-hexane diol.

L'invention concerne la production de 1,6-hexandiol consistant à faire réagir a) de l'époxybutadiène en présence d'un catalyseur de métathèse avec dissociation de l'éthène en bisépoxyhexatriènes des formules (Ia) et (Ib), et b) en hydrogénant ces bisépoxyhexatriènes avec de l'hydrogène de manière à obtenir 1,6-hexandiol.
