A method for creating an interpolated video frame using a current video frame, and a plurality of previous video frames. The method includes creating a set of extrapolated motion vectors from at least one reference video frame in the plurality of previous video frames ; performing an adaptive motion estimation using the extrapolated motion vectors and a content type of each extrapolated motion vector ; deciding on a motion compensated interpolation mode ; and, creating a set of motion compensated motion vectors based on the motion compensated interpolation mode decision. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de créer une trame vidéo interpolée au moyen d'une trame vidéo courante et d'une pluralité de trames vidéo précédentes. Ce procédé consiste à créer une série de vecteurs de mouvement extrapolés à partir d'au moins une trame vidéo de référence dans la pluralité de trames vidéo précédentes ; à effectuer une estimation de mouvement adaptative au moyen des vecteurs de mouvement extrapolés et d'un type de contenu de chaque vecteur de mouvement extrapolé ; à adopter un mode d'interpolation à compensation de mouvement ; et à créer une série de vecteurs de mouvement à compensation de mouvement basés sur le mode d'interpolation à compensation de mouvement adopté. L'invention concerne également un appareil permettant de mettre en oeuvre le procédé selon l'invention.
