ABSTRACT Life of a combination of two or more catalysts in a hydrodesulphurization process without catalyst replenishment of a residual oil is longer than that of each of the catalysts if applied separately, provided that each of the catalysts has a porosity and particle size within specified ranges depending on the porosity and particle size of the applied hydrogen partial pressure combination and on the applied hydrogen partial pressure and that the catalysts are applied in a given volume ratio.
