A first treating agent for forming a protective coating which comprises water and, compounded therewith, an alkali silicate represented by the formula: M2O .cndot. nSiO2, wherein n represents a number of 2 to 9 and M represents at least one of Na, K, Li and NR4 where each R independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; a second treating agent comprising the first treating agent and a lubricating agent; a metallic material having a protective coating formed by using the treating agent; and a method for forming a protective coating which comprises using the treating agent. The second treating agent can form a coating film having excellent self- lubricating property. The treating agents can form a coating film having excellent anti-galling and rust preventive properties which is comparable or superior to those of a coating film formed through a chemical reaction of a metallic base material, by a simple and easy method wherein the treating agent is applied on the surface of a metallic material and then dried.
L'invention concerne un premier agent de traitement, destiné à former un revêtement protecteur, comprenant de l'eau et, en mélange, un silicate alcalin représenté par la formule M¿2?O.nSiO¿2?, dans laquelle n représente un nombre de 2 à 9 et M représente au moins Na, K, Li et NR¿4?, chaque R représentant, de manière indépendante, un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe alkyle. L'invention concerne aussi un second agent de traitement comprenant le premier agent de traitement et un agent de lubrification, un matériau métallique comportant un revêtement protecteur formé au moyen de l'agent de traitement, ainsi qu un procédé de formation d'un revêtement protecteur consistant à utiliser l'agent de traitement. Le second agent de traitement peut former un film de revêtement possédant d'excellentes propriétés d'auto-lubrification. Les agents de traitement peuvent former un film de revêtement possédant d'excellentes propriétés de prévention contre la rouille et anti-éraillures comparables ou supérieures à celles d'un film de revêtement formé par une réaction chimique d'un matériau de base métallique, le film de l'invention étant simplement et facilement réalisé au moyen d'un procédé consistant à appliquer l'agent de traitement sur la surface d'un matériau métallique, puis à sécher le tout.
