A level measuring probe in which all potential leakage paths are closed by concentrically shrinking the outmost diametrical surface of the probe by some mechanical means such as a crimper or rotary swager to provide sufficient force to substantially uniformly deform the ground (34), guard (14), and active (10) elements and insulators (12, 16) around the circumference of the probe such that multiple seals are created. A circumferential notch (42) is preferably provided in the active probe element (10) at the point of the crimping or swaging to provide "blowout protection" whereby the active probe electrode (10) is held in place when used in a high pressure vessel. A pressure seal between the electrodes and insulation material is also maintained by using an elastomeric insulator which returns to its original shape after heating or a thin electrode which "gives" a little when the insulator expands radially during heating. The arrangement of the invention thus eliminates the need for costly machined parts and bushings to provide pressure seals.

L'invention concerne une sonde de mesure de niveau dans laquelle toutes les voies de fuite potentielle sont fermées par rétrécissement concentrique de la surface diamétrale extérieure de la sonde à l'aide d'un moyen mécanique tel qu'une sertisseuse ou une étampe rotative destinée à fournir suffisamment de force pour déformer sensiblement uniformément la terre (34), la protection (14), ainsi que des éléments actifs (10) et des isolateurs (12, 16) autour de la circonférence de ladite sonde, de manière à créer des joints d'étanchéité multiple. Une encoche (42) entoure l'élément actif (10) de la sonde au point de sertissage ou de refoulement, afin de ménager une "protection anti-éclatement", de sorte que l'électrode active (10) de la sonde est maintenue en place lorsqu'elle est utilisée dans une cuve à haute pression. Un joint d'étanchéité à la pression situé entre les électrodes et le matériau isolant est également maintenu à l'aide d'un isolateur élastomère revenant à sa forme d'origine à préchauffage, ou une électrode mince qui "donne" un peu lorsque l'isolateur se dilate radialement au cours du chauffage. L'agencement de l'invention élimine ainsi les pièces et les manchons d'usinage coûteux pour produire des joints d'étanchéité à pression.
