A method and device for treating a mammalian organism to obtain a desired local or systemic physiological or pharmacological effect is provided. The method includes administering a sustained release drug delivery system to a mammalian organism in need of such treatment at an area wherein release of an effective agent is desired and allowing the effective agent to pass through the device in a controlled manner. The device includes an inner core or reservoir including the effective agent, an impermeable tube which encloses portions of the reservoir, and a permeable member at an end of the tube.
L'invention a trait à une technique ainsi qu'au dispositif correspondant permettant de traiter un organisme de mammifère et ce, afin d'obtenir un effet pharmacologique ou physiologique souhaité, général ou local. La technique consiste à administrer un système d'administration de médicament à dégagement prolongé à un mammifère nécessitant un tel traitement, dans une région où le dégagement d'un agent efficace est souhaité, et à faire en sorte que cet agent puisse traverser le dispositif de manière régulée. Le dispositif comporte un noyau interne ou réservoir renfermant l'agent efficace, un tube imperméable renfermant des parties du réservoir et un élément perméable situé à une extrémité du tube.
