ABSTRACT The vehicle steering control device comprises a steering control member (9) actuatable by the driver and a slaving device (DA) comprising two sensors (8, 11) each supplying a detection signal (SR, SM) representative, respectively, of the angular position of the vehicles steerable wheels (1, 2) and of the position of the control member (9), a motor (7) for pivoting the steerable wheels (1, 2) in response to a control signal (SC), and a slaving circuit (12) producing this control signal in response to the detection signals (SR, SM). The steering control device further comprises a coupling member (13) able to mechanically connect the steering control member (9) to the steerable wheels (1, 2) when the slaving device (DA) is not working properly whereby, in such an event, the driver retains control over his vehicle's steering.
