A method of preparing a TiAl base composition containing niobium and chromium according to the formula Ti48Al48Cr2Nb2 is taught. The composition is melted and cast. It is then homogenized at temperatures up to 1400°C. The cast and homogenized composition is enclosed in a restraining band, heated to forging temperature and forged. Following the forging, it is annealed and aged.
