This invention relates to a polymerization process and to a catalyst composition for the polymerization of olefins comprising a catalyst composition for the polymerization of olefins comprising: a) a catalyst precursor of the formula (I) LMn+(X)y(R)(n-y-1), wherein L is a cycloalkadienyl ligand except for cyclopentadienyl and pentamethylcyclopentadienyl; M is an element selected from Groups 3 to 10 and the Lanthanides; each X is independently an anion; each R is a hydride or a group containing at least two carbons capable of attachment to M in a multihapto manner through at least one hydrogen or carbon atom; n is the valence of M; and y is an integer from 0 to 5; or b) a catalyst precursor of the formula (II) CpDa(JY)(Q)(a-2), wherein Cp is a cycloalkadienyl ligand, D is group 4, 5 or 6 metal, provided however that when Cp is a mono-cyclic cyclopentadienyl group, D is not titanium, a is the oxidation state of D, J is a group 15, 16 or 17 atom, Y is a heteroatom, a substituted heteroatom or a C1 to C100 hydrocarbyl group which may optionally contain one or more heteroatoms, each Q is independently an anionic leaving group, and c) an activator.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de polymérisation et une composition catalytique pour la polymérisation d'oléfines. La composition catalytique pour la polymérisation d'oléfines comprend: (a) un précurseur catalytique de formule (I) LM?n+¿(X)¿y?(R)¿(n-y-1)? dans laquelle L est un ligand de cycloalkadiényle, sauf cyclopentadiényle et pentaméthylcyclopentadienyle; M est un élément pris dans les groupes 3 à 10 des lanthanides; chaque X est indépendamment un anion; chaque R est un hydride ou un groupe renfermant au moins deux atomes de carbone capables dune liaison multihapto avec M par l'intermédiaire d'un moins un atome d'hydrogène ou de carbone: n est la valence de M et; y est un entier compris entre 0 et 5; ou (b) un précurseur catalytique de la formule (II) CpD?a¿(JY)(Q)¿(a-2)? dans laquelle Cp est un ligand de cycloalkadienyle, D est un métal de groupe 4, 5 ou 6, à condition toutefois que Cp soit un groupe cyclopentadiényle monocyclique, D ne soit pas titane, a représente l'état d'oxydation de D, J est un atome de groupe 15, 16 ou 17, Y est un hétéroatome, un hétéroatome substitué ou un groupe hydrocarbyle en C¿1?-C¿100? pouvant éventuellement renfermer un ou plusieurs hétéroatomes, chaque Q est indépendamment un groupe partant anionique et (c) est un activateur.
