The invention relates to the control of soliton-soliton interaction through the application of a positive phase shift. For each soliton width there is a critical phase modulation level above which soliton-soliton interaction can be virtually eliminated. This enables the spacing between adjacent solitons to be reduced, increasing the system bandwidth even for long transmission distances. The invention finds application in submarine and other long haul systems.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de régulation de l'interaction soliton-soliton par l'application d'un décalage de phase positif. Pour chaque largeur de soliton il existe un niveau de modulation de phase critique au-dessus duquel l'interaction soliton-soliton peut être virtuellement supprimée. Ceci permet de rédurie l'écartement entre des solitons adjacents et d'augmenter la largeur de bande du système, même en ce qui concerne des distances de transmission importantes. L'invention s'applique à des sous-marins et autres systèmes de transport à grande distance.
