There is disclosed a method of inhibiting the lethal effect of expressing an otherwise lethal protein in a cell, said method comprising: (a) providing a cell, tissue or organism having (i) a nucleotide sequence encoding a Gas1 protein, or a functional equivalent, derivative or bioprecursor thereof, which is capable of inducing apoptosis in said cell and (ii) a further nucleotide sequence encoding a protein which is otherwise lethal to said cell in itself or in response to a lethal stimulus in the presence of Gas1; (b) inhibiting function and/or expression of said Gas1 protein or functional equivalent, derivative or bioprecursor thereof; and (c) expressing said sequence encoding said otherwise lethal protein.

Cette invention concerne une technique permettant d'inhiber l'effet létal d'une protéine normalement létale dans une cellule. Ce procédé consiste à: (a) se procurer une cellule, un tissu ou un organisme qui présente une (i)séquence nucléotidique codant pour une protéine Gas1, ou bien pour un équivalent fonctionnel, un dérivé ou un bioprécurseur de ladite protéine, et qui est capable d'induire l'apoptose de ladite cellule et (ii) une autre séquence nucléotidique codant pour une protéine qui est normalement, létale pour la cellule elle-même ou en réponse à un stimulus létal en présence de Gas1; et (b) inhiber la fonction et/ou l'expression de ladite protéine Gas1 ou bien d'un équivalent fonctionnel, d'un dérivé ou d'un bioprécurseur de cette protéine; et (c) exprimer ladite séquence codant pour la dite protéine normalement létale.
