The present invention is directed to methods for the identification of a prostate cancer cell that has metastatic potential or a cell that is or is derived from a secondary prostate tumor metastasis by screening for the expression of flt-4, the cellular receptor of vascular endothelial growth factor-C and -D ("VEGF-C", "VEGF-D"). The present invention is also directed to methods for treating, inhibiting or preventing secondary prostate tumor metastases by inhibiting the expression or activity of flt-4, e.g., inhibiting flt-4: VEGF-C/D complex formation (binding), by administration of a therapeutic. Compositions useful in such methods are also provided.
L'invention concerne des procédés pour l'identification de cellules cancéreuses de la prostate à potentiel métastatique, ou de cellules constituées par des métastases de tumeurs secondaires de la prostate ou dérivées de celles-ci, consistant à dépister, pour l'expression de flt-4, le récepteur cellulaire des facteurs de croissance endothélials vasculaires C et D (<= VEGF-C >=, <= VEGF-D >=). L'invention concerne également des procédés pour le traitement, l'inhibition ou la prévention de métastases de tumeurs secondaires de la prostate, par inhibition de l'expression ou de l'activité de flt-4, par exemple, l'inhibition de la formation (liaison) de complexe flt-4:VEGF-C/D, par administration d'un agent thérapeutique. L'invention concerne enfin des compositions utilisées dans de tels procédés.
