The present invention is concerned with a Bovine Herpesvirus I (BHV-I) mutant comprising a heterologous gene introduced into a section of the BHV-I genome. The invention also relates to a vector vaccine comprising such a BHV-I mutant which expresses a heterologous polypeptide derived from a bovine pathogen and induces an adequate immune response in an inoculated host against both FHV an the bovine pathogen. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for obtaining a BHV-I mutant by self-selection.
