A magnetorheological material containing a particle component and a carrier fluid having a change in viscosity per degree temperature (.DELTA..pi./.DELTA.T ratio) less than or equal to about 9.0 centipoise/° C over the temperature range of 25 °C to -40 °C. The magnetorheological material exhibits a substantial magnetorheological effect with a minimal variation in mechanical properties with respect to changes in temperature. The magnetorheological material is advantageous in that it provides for the design of devices that are smaller, more efficient and consume less power.

Est décrit un matériau magnétorhéologique contenant un constituant particulaire et un fluide porteur présentant une variation de viscosité par degré de température (rapport DELTAeta/DELTAT) inférieure ou égale à environ 9,0 centipoise/°C sur la plage thermique comprise entre 25 °C et -40 °C. Ce matériau magnétorhéologique présente un effet magnétorhéologique sensible assorti d'une variation minimale des caractéristiques mécaniques par rapport aux variations de température. Ce matériau magnétorhéologique est avantageux en ce sens qu'il permet la conception de dispositifs qui sont plus petits, plus efficaces et consomment moins d'énergie.
