The invention is directed to a mechanism for adjusting the louvers in a cleaning shoe from the side of an agricultural combine. The left-hand side of the combine is provided with a chaffer and a sieve adjusting hole. Located adjacent to the adjusting holes are a chaffer and a sieve engagement handle for rotating a chaffer and a sieve transversely arranged rotatable shaft. Both transversely arranged rotatable shafts are provided with transverse bevel gears that mesh with a perpendicular axial bevel gear that drives an axially arranged rotatable shaft. The axially arranged rotatable shaft is threaded and engages a threaded member that is coupled to an adjusting bar for controlling the position of the chaffer and sieve louvers. In another embodiment the threaded member comprises an non-rotatable external threaded portion that is mounted to the adjusting bar which engages an internally threaded portion on the axial bevel gear.
