ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed are novel DNA sequences contained in soybean chlorotic mottle virus genome. The present invention provides cloned DNA sequences comprising a promoter region existing in open reading frame Ia, II, III or V, as well as a promoter region at an upstream region of open reading frame VII of soybean chlorotic mottle virus genome. The present invention also provides a cloned DNA region comprising a translational enhancer- like sequence in open reading frame III as well as cloned DNA sequences comprising regions encoding the coat protein and the reverse transcriptase of the virus. The present invention still further provides recombinant vectors containing the DNA sequences of the present invention.
