An ice fishing rod comprising a mast that may be anchored in a mound of snow for being supported vertically, an elongate arm, and a spring hinge connecting an end of the arm to the mast, wherein the spring hinge enables the arm to pivot between an extended, horizontal configuration, and a folded, vertical configuration, and wherein the spring hinge is biased to maintaining the arm in the extended position until such time as a downward force sufficient to overcome the bias of the spring hinge acts on the arm member. A line holder may be connected to the arm member for drawing in or letting out of fishing line as required by a user. An indicator, such as a rod and reflector may be connected to the arm member in longitudinal alignment therewith for alerting the user to movement of the arm member.
