L'invention concerne les radioaltimètres qui utilisent un oscillateur linéaire (3) pour émettre un signal en dents de scie. En plus de ce premier oscillateur (3) le radioaltimètre comporte un second oscillateur linéaire (3') pour émettre, en synchronisme avec le premier, un autre signal en dents de scie de durée de dent de scie Td donnée ; les paliers des dents de scie des deux signaux en dents de scie sont distants d'une valeur f. Le test consiste à obtenir par battement entre les deux signaux en dents de scie une hauteur h', à calculer une hauteur étalon he = f.c.Td/dF.2 où c est la vitesse de la lumière et dF la durée de chaque dent de scie de l'autre signal.
