ABSTRACT A curling broom of the push-broom type has the active bottom surface provided with a fabric coating replacing the usual natural or artificial bristles. Preferably, two types of fabric are applied one beside the other, differing from each other in coarseness. The generally flat active surfaces of the fabrics are vertically spaced from each other and one of the surfaces is preferably inclined relative to the other whereby a selective combination of polishing and buffing action can be achieved by simply tilting the handle of the broom. The invention improves the action of the broom, reduces the manufacturing costs, virtually eliminates some contamination of the ice surface and greatly extends operation life of the device. A separate, detachable plate for use in the broom is also disclosed.
